Edible Jewelry: pendants, necklaces and bracelets to wear …and to eat!!

February 3, 2014 § Leave a comment

As part of our Kids Korner posts, we are proud to introduce our new line of jewelry! Who knew that baking and fancy jewels could go hand in hand?

Well, when you try to please little girls and create fun activities for birthday parties, jewelry is one of the top ideas. So SWEETTABLESCAPES created necklaces and bracelets. Whether pret-a-porter (ready to wear) or meant to be decorated by the kids (simple white icing and edible ink markers will do the trick), these adorable pendants, licorice strings and edible cookie-beads create amazing jewelry that can be eaten at the end of the party!

We make “kits” which contain everything needed to make beautiful necklaces; just check this out:

Just be aware that as the dough bakes, it will soften and lose its perfect round shape, but it’s still cute!!

Decorate some small squares or any other shape (see our Valentin'es heart necklaces below) with Monograms or fun shapes and colors!!

DO NOT FORGET to punch holes in all your beads and pendants. Use a lollipop stick and wiggle it so the hole is a bit bigger. You can also widen it a bit after baking if you use the tip of a sharp paring knife and twist it into the hole to “shave off” some dough.

Add licorice string candy and voila...a beautiful edible necklace!!

IMG_5833For more elaborate and elegant necklaces, we created cameos with fondant. For this, you will need a special cameo silicone mold (found here). To give your cameo an “antique” look, lightly brush some cocoa on it. “Glue” it to your cookie pendant, either by attaching it while the Royal Icing is still wet or by using a bit of corn syrup.
