Disney movie “Frozen”: birthday cake for little ones!

SWEETTABLESCAPES just finished a fun project for twin girls. They wanted to celebrate their birthday with a cake based on the Disney movie Frozen, so we got to work.
Given the “cold” theme, a white cake was the obvious choice. To remind them of snow, it was covered in sour cream frosting and then coconut. Snowflake cookies added to the wintery theme, but the main event was really the “portrait cookies” of each of the main characters.
This was a first for Sweettablescapes: we painted our cookies!! We used our usual sugar cookie recipe, cut them in an oval shape, iced them in white and proceeded to draw the faces of the characters with an edible marker.
Using our usual food coloring gels, diluted if necessary with a bit of lemon extract, we painted each face..
We then baked our cake (a 3-layer vanilla cake) and covered it with Sour Cream Frosting. We applied each cookie to the side of the cake, as well as some snowflake cookies for additional decoration. A large snowflake decorated the top of our cake.
